"Wheatfield with a Reaper" by Vincent van Gogh
Many artists claim that yellow represented happiness, warmth, and radiance to Van Gogh. Having painted this field from the hospital room he admitted himself into, the reaper chopping down the wheat signifies the destruction of life and jollity. Van Gogh life was plagued with adversities as he battled with manic depression, despite the creative maestro he is credited with today.
"The Night Café" by Vincent van Gogh
Van Gogh painted this piece as a place where all the melancholy and depressed people go. In fact, his own dislike for his work compelled him to call it the painting of anxiety. The exaggerated perspective and distorted view is meant to make the audience feel a sense of uneasiness.
